Consumer Law

Currently, online and omni-channel traders are confronted with 28 different consumer rules: ranging from legal guarantee periods to rules on conformity.

This means small online traders must invest, both time and money, into mapping out the intricacies of the various consumer laws in the Member States to ensure that they are compliant and can deliver the best service and experience to their customers.

The European Union is in the process of overhauling its existing consumer and marketing laws, including targeted contractual rules, to harmonise trading conditions across the EU. To create a true single market for e-commerce, EMOTA is advocating for harmonised rules that create certainty  for traders and consumers alike.
